Study on the Effect of Basin Blocks in Modifying Gradual Hydraulic Jump Behavior in Trapezoidal Open Channels

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The present investigation focuses on analyzing how basin blocks influence hydraulic jumps in a gradually expanding stilling basin with a trapezoidal geometry. Experiments were conducted using both rectangular and trapezoidal channel sections, each having a 3° expansion angle. Multiple block sizes and three different longitudinal placements of blocks were tested. In the trapezoidal section, side walls were inclined at a 1:1.5 ratio. The outcomes of the study revealed that introducing basin blocks significantly decreases the sequent depth and jump length, while notably improving energy dissipation when compared to jumps in basins without any blocks.
