You Are Not Your Mistakes: A Case for Restorative Practice from Psychology to Eternity
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: EDIT: These essays were written while I was experiencing a psychotic episode. They contain fragments of ideas and personal opinions I may still find interesting, but also a fair amount of oversharing, unusually expansive thinking, speculative connections across fields, and conclusions I would express with much more caution today. I’ve decided to leave them available as a record of that period rather than treat them as representative of my current thinking. Please read them accordingly. In this labor of love, I make a case for Restorative Practice using arguments from Psychology and Theology. It was written in a very conversational, playful style (which I'm not sure any journal would accept😂) but I did so to make it easy for anyone to read and understand. To keep it engaging, I used analogies from chess, music, quantum mechanics, media, and material science, etc. to illustrate and explain my ideas. I also broadened the focus beyond the justice system, detailing how restorative principles can help us love better in all areas of life, including personal relationships. I really hope you enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it!
