A Silvaco TCAD Approach of Performance Analysis of P3HT-Based Organic Solar Cell
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: In this work, the performance of a P3HT-based Organic Solar Cell (OSC) has been investigated. The proposed OSC has been designed and implemented in the Silvaco TCAD environment. A thin layer of P3HT serving as the absorber layer has been sandwiched between two Zinc Oxide (ZnO) layers, where the top and bottom ZnO layer acts as the electron and hole transport layer, respectively. An n-doped graphene layer is the front electrode, and aluminum is the bottom electrode. The modeling of the proposed OSC considers singlet excitons, singlet dissociation, and langev in recombination. Silvaco TCAD-based simulations have been carried out to analyze the current-voltage (JV) characteristics as well as the Internal and External Quantum Efficiency (IQE and EQE) of the proposed OSC. Performance metrics obtained from the JV characteristics show that the proposed OSC demonstrates a short circuit current density (JSC) of 9.88 mA/cm2, an open circuit voltage (VOC) of 1.158 V, a Fill Factor (FF) of 25.8% and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 2.728%, where the EQE plots show a 25% over the visible and infra-red wavelength range (0.5 μm -2.5 μm). These results are consistent with those obtained in the literature.
