Disaster Management: Role of the Veterinarian
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Livestock served as a vital asset for 70% of the poor people worldwide, this makes them the most susceptible to disasters. Animals are affected by the same disasters that humans are natural, man-made, and veterinarians play a critical role. Disaster management is becoming a more popular specialty within the veterinary profession. Veterinarians began to consider how their expertise of animal health and husbandry, as well as the interaction between animals and humans, could be used to save not only the lives of animals, but also the lives of people affected by disasters. Providing veterinarians with training, advice, experience, and guidelines goes a long way toward protecting their animals during calamities. As a result, relief strategies and procedures for livestock should be devised during the crisis to ensure appropriate management. This study focuses the different roles that veterinarians can do.
