Roles of libraries in information literacy of rural communities: An overview

Abstract: Information literacy plays a very important role in this era of information explosion, where most people are exposed to unlimited and borderless information. This paper discusses that rural residents must be information literate to be lifelong learners. It is vital to promote information literacy competency development programs for rural dwellers. Libraries therefore need to conduct information literacy programmes and help educate the local communities with the skills.
