Footwear-Integrated Reflexive Metal Detection System for Enhanced Soldier Safety
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This research paper presents a novel, minimalistic footwear-integrated system for real-time detection of metallic threats such as landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Using a simple metal detector and a high-power vibratory feedback mechanism embedded in soldier boots, the system triggers the natural reflex arc to cause immediate foot withdrawal upon detection within a 1–2-foot range.Designed to be lightweight, low-cost, and battery-powered for field use, this innovation leverages human neurophysiology to enhance battlefield survivability without complex electronics. The paper also references neuroscience studies, metal detection standards, and existing device analysis, supporting the scientific basis and practical feasibility of this approach.
