Probable Stabilization Theory - Micro-collapses as traces of stabilization_EEG experiment

Abstract: This study proposes a high-density EEG experiment to test Probable Stabilization Theory’s prediction that cognition unfolds as a looped sequence of anchoring → micro-collapse → re-anchoring, visible as a reproducible neuroelectric motif. Using an Iterative Remote Associates problem-solving task with precisely timed entropy injections (subtle primes), we aim to detect: Anchored thought – sustained α/low-β (8–20 Hz), longer microstate lifetimes, and fronto-parietal focus. Micro-collapse – global field power (GFP) dip, rapid microstate switch (<50 ms), α/β desynchronization, and phase reset. Re-anchoring – frontal θ–γ coupling (200–400 ms post-collapse) with microstate lifetime rebound. The presence of this three-phase sequence prior to correct “insight” answers, and its absence or attenuation before guesses, would support PST’s loop-timing model. Null results would directly falsify PST for this paradigm. The design integrates microstate analysis, time–frequency decomposition, and phase–amplitude coupling, alongside artifact controls (eye-tracking, EMG) and valence modulation. Pre-registered claims: EEG can be used to locate a thought’s position in the cognitive loop, not merely its state. Micro-collapse events are intrinsic to the loop’s dynamics and not stimulus artifacts. Stronger entropy injections increase collapse probability without shifting re-anchoring timing. PST ContextThis experiment is a direct neural test of Probable Stabilization Theory (PST), a unifying model describing thought as iterative stabilization within entropy. PST frames brainwaves as residues of constraint, not primary drivers of cognition. Detecting the predicted EEG motif would validate PST’s core claim that micro-collapses are functional gateways to re-anchoring, enabling cognitive flexibility. While the work stands independently as a neuroscience study of insight and problem solving, it also serves as a targeted probe of PST’s scalability from theoretical cognition to measurable neurodynamics. **Keywords:** Probable Stabilization Theory, cognitive stabilization, entropy and cognition, anchors and stabilizers, collapse and re-anchoring, cognitive loop model, EEG, brain microstates, phase–amplitude coupling, insight problem solving, cognitive flexibility, neural dynamics, experimental design, cross-domain theory, loop-based cognition, destabilization events, information anchoring
