Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Literature is a rich repository of historical and cultural treasures, offering a wealth of knowledge and insights. Literary adaptations have emerged combining literature with media forms like films, captivating students' attention and boosting engagement. However, in the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom, students may still encounter setbacks. Through a qualitative phenomenological study, the researcher explored the experiences, strategies, and insights of English teachers pertaining to leveraging literary adaptation in an EFL classroom. The participants were ten (10) English teachers from different schools within Cluster 8 of Davao City. From the findings, unique narratives were gathered about the experiences, strategies, and insights of the teachers. Three themes emerged as experiences of English teachers: technological disruptions, time constraints, and diverse learning needs of students. Meanwhile, for strategies, three themes have been unfurled: introductory engagement activities, scaffolding and support, and task-based learning. For the insights, there were also three themes: increased student participation, language development, and provision of pedagogical support. The study showcases teachers' dedication to crafting enriching learning experiences that foster students' literary appreciation and comprehension, while nurturing a deeper understanding of literary pieces. The findings of this study seem to lead to the conclusion to the experiences of English teachers leveraging literary adaptations face several challenges.
