The Labyrinth of Complexity: A Mathematical Model of Cognitive Dynamics in the P vs NP Problem Based on the Unified Dynamic Model of Mind (UDMM)
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper introduces a novel mathematical model to simulate the underlying cognitive and perceptual dynamics involved in the struggle to solve NP-hard problems, specifically the P vs NP problem. Drawing upon the fundamental principles of the Unified Dynamic Model of Mind (UDMM), psychological concepts such as "Informational Tension," "Cognitive Boundaries," and "Holistic Intent" are translated into rigorous mathematical language. The proposed model utilizes tools from dynamic systems theory, information theory (Free Energy Principle), and vector calculus to describe the movement of a researcher's "Cognitive State" through the problem's "State Space." The solution is represented as an attractor point (W_{ideal}), and the driving force towards the solution is defined as a gradient descent to minimize Kullback-Leibler (KL) Divergence, guided by a three-layered "Holistic Intent Vector" (\vec{C}). The model aims not to prove whether P=NP, but to provide a framework for simulating and understanding phenomena such as "sudden insight," "cognitive frustration," and "deviation from the correct path." The implications of this model for understanding the nature of computational difficulty and for designing more creative and problem-solving artificial intelligence systems are discussed.
