Abstract: Two-dimensional Supersonic Shear Wave Elastography(2D-SWE SSI) is a diagnostic technique that uses a stateof-the-art ultrasound scanner that can qualitatively (usinga color scale) and quantitatively (in kilopascals or meters/second) assess the stiffness of different tissues. Thistechnology is combined with UGAP (Ultrasound GuidedAttenuation Parameter), an index used to accurately assessthe level of hepatic steatosis (fatty liver). This combinationis a non-invasive tool that uses ultrasound to determinethe attenuation of its waves as they pass through the liver. The fat accumulated in the liver influences the acousticproperties of liver tissue, producing greater attenuation ofultrasound waves the greater the problem. This technologymeasures and assesses the amount of fat present in theliver and is vitally important after treatment to measure(quantify) the patient’s progress or response to appropriateand timely treatment.
