Recent Progress in Microneedle Drug Delivery Technology and Its Implications in Transdermal Cancer Therapy
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Microneedles (MNs) are emerging as a transformative tool in the treatment of cancer, offering a minimally invasive approach for localized drug delivery. Their potential lies in their ability to bypass traditional barriers like the skin and mucosa, allowing direct administration of therapeutic agents into target tissues. This technology can be particularly advantageous in overcoming chemoresistance, a significant hurdle in cancer therapy, by enhancing drug penetration and enabling sustained release of chemotherapeutics. MNs can deliver a wide range of anticancer agents directly into tumor microenvironments, including small molecules, nanoparticles, and biologicals like antibodies and RNA therapeutics.
