Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This article explores the critical role of teaching word formation and word combination in developing vocabulary and overall language proficiency. It highlights various types of word formation processes—such as affixation, compounding, conversion, and blending—as well as the importance of understanding morphology. The article also examines word combination (collocation) and its influence on natural and fluent language use. Effective teaching strategies, including explicit instruction, contextual learning, and the use of authentic materials, are discussed. Challenges such as overgeneralization, translation difficulties, and memory retention are addressed, along with practical solutions like spaced repetition and collaborative learning. By integrating theoretical concepts with engaging, real-world activities, educators can foster more confident and competent language learners.
