Music Therapy and Indian Classical Music in Modern Wellness

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Music therapy has emerged as a potent non-pharmacological intervention in modern wellness, leveraging the intrinsic healing properties of sound to address physical, emotional, and psychological ailments. Indian classical music, with its rich tradition of ragas and rhythmic structures, offers a unique framework for therapeutic application. This paper explores the integration of Indian classical music into music therapy practices and its relevance in contemporary wellness paradigms. Through a review of historical contexts, theoretical frameworks, and empirical evidence, the study examines how ragas influence emotional regulation, stress reduction, and overall well-being. The findings suggest that Indian classical music holds untapped potential in modern therapeutic settings, necessitating further research and awareness among practitioners and the public.
