Enhancing Pilgrimage Tourism: Development Strategies and Opportunities in Uzbekistan
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Asia is the centre of many religions, and religious and pilgrimage tourism is a fast-expanding industry worldwide. Given that 60% of people on the planet practise a religion, there is a lot of room for religious tourism, both domestically and abroad. Uzbekistan has a significant potential for religious tourism, as evidenced by its rich history and holy locations featuring notable people in Islam and hadith studies. The project's objectives are to construct cross-border pilgrimage tour routes, including sample itineraries and maps, and investigate the possibility of establishing pilgrimage tourist destinations in Uzbekistan.
