Abstract: This paper is titled "A Review and Refocus of University Education for Good Governance and Sustainable Peace in Rivers State." It emphasizes the pivotal role of university education in advancing good governance and fostering lasting and sustainable peace within the society. The work investigates the role of university education in Nigeria, with particular attention to Rivers State, assessing university education contributions to governance and peacebuilding. It also examines the connection between education, governance, and peace, highlighting the critical significance of university education in cultivating leadership, resolving conflicts, and promoting nation-building. Furthermore, the paper underscores the necessity of incorporating ethical leadership, peace studies, and community-oriented policies into university curricula to amplify their societal impact. Key challenges identified in the paper include corruption, lack of accountability and transparency, ineffective leadership and governance, insufficient funding, policy inconsistency, inadequate infrastructure, political interference, limited access, poverty, unemployment, inequity, poor research culture, brain drain, weak regulatory frameworks, and the erosion of moral values. These issues are analyzed to reveal their far-reaching effects on educational outcomes and their broader implications, showing how they collectively undermine education potential to support sustainable peace. By addressing these flaws and fostering accountability, Nigerian universities can significantly enhance their contributions to national development. This paper offers practical solutions including promoting openness and responsibility, ensuring campus security, providing adequate financial support, and implementing well-structured policies to strengthen governance. Ultimately, this paper pushes the position that university education in Rivers State can serve as a powerful driving force for governance reforms, socio-economic progress and enduring peace.
