Abstract: The study on economic analysis of rice production among smallholders’ farmers in Ayamelum Local Government Area, Anambra State had two specific objectives which described the socioeconomic characteristics of rice farmers and estimated the cost and returns from the enterprise. Data were collected from a random sample of 120 respondents and were analysed with a combination of analytical tools such as descriptive statistics and budgetary techniques. The study revealed that the majority (56.7%) of the farmers were male, with an average age of 36 years, 8 years farming experience, household size of 7, 1.23 ha of farm size, and monthly income of N109, 791.95. The farmers realize a gross profit of N845, 186.60 and a net profit of N630, 786.00 from rice production in the area. The researcher, therefore, recommends that the rice cooperative society should support the farmers by building a steady capacity for price stability and standard market structure for improved profit.
