Human Evaluative Responses toward Animals
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The Human Evaluative Responses toward Animals (HERA) Model is a framework developed for conceptualizing and measuring attitudes toward different animal categories: pets, pests, farm animals, and wild animals. The HERA, inspired in previous models but adjusted to better capture the evaluation of animals, is based on three main domains and their corresponding dimensions: stereotypes (consciousness, sociability, intrinsic value, and negative intention), emotions (positive and negative), and behavioral tendencies (facilitation and harm). This model emphasizes the intergroup perspective (how we evaluate animals as social groups), and the measurement considers a dimensional approach.
