Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper examines how Richard I of England (1157–1199), known as the Lionheart, leveraged entertainment forms, including literary romances, troubadour culture, theatrical performances, and symbolic ceremonies, to craft a propagandistic image that bolstered his political authority, financed his military campaigns, and solidified his legacy, transforming his prolonged absences from England into a narrative legend, using entertainment as a sophisticated tool of statecraft and dynastic legitimization.
