Work-life Quality: Enablers of Employee Performance
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Quality of work life has increasingly been recognized as a crucial factor influencing employees across various sectors. This study investigated the significant association between grit and quality of work life in relation to job performance among non-teaching personnel of tertiary schools in Northern Mindanao. A quantitative descriptive-correlational research approach was utilized, involving 88 participants from the selected schools. The study aimed to explore how grit and quality of work life correlate with employees' job performance. Data collection was done through an online survey, comprising sections on demographic details, the Grit Scale (Duckworth & Quinn, 2009), the modified Work-Related Quality of Life scale (Van Laar et al., 2007), and performance metrics based on Lourdes College's Administrative Manual (2024). Findings reveal that participants reported a generally high quality of work life across all dimensions and they assessed grit as only moderate. On the other hand, job performance was rated approaching excellence in all areas. The results further indicate that grit did not significantly correlate with job performance. Instead, a specific aspect of quality of work life, particularly working conditions, was positively associated with employee performance outcomes. It is, thus, recommended that organizations focus on improving the quality of work-life initiatives, particularly by enhancing working conditions and promoting job satisfaction to boost overall employee performance. Although grit did not demonstrate a direct relationship with job performance in this study, fostering an environment that encourages persistence and sustained interest may still contribute to a more engaged and motivated workforce.
