Abstract: This chapter summarizes the material covered on this subject during a course of about eight hours to provide an introduction on superconducting magnets for particle accelerators, and in particular dipole and quadrupole magnets, with low-temperature superconducting materials. The course, focusing on the basic principles, physical parameters, and analytical and numerical tools related to superconducting magnet design, is subdivided in five parts.
