SCREENING OF PHYTOCHEMICAL STUDIES, ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY, FTIR ANALYSIS AND ANTIBACTERIAL ASSAY OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF Trapa bispinosa Roxb

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Phytochemicals are naturally occurring compounds in plants with various health benefits, including antioxidant properties that protect against oxidative stress linked to aging and diseases. This study aimed to identify and quantify phytochemicals in a methanolic whole plant extract and evaluate its antioxidant activity using FRAP and DPPH assays. Qualitative analysis detected saponins, alkaloids, phenols, steroids, and flavonoids, indicating diverse biological activities. Quantitative analysis revealed total phenol content of 0.45 mg/g (gallic acid equivalents) and total flavonoid content of 0.74 mg/g (quercetin equivalents), suggesting significant health benefits.
