The Role of Ai in Developing Global Cybersecurity Policies
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Cyberattacks are becoming increasingly advanced and moves are made in a matter of seconds, moving beyond the traditional security measures. AI plays a crucial role in cybersecurity, enabling advanced threat detection, automation of response mechanisms, and predictive analysis. This paper assesses the role of AI in shaping global cybersecurity policies and discusses how AI can contribute to it, the challenges and ethical considerations, and international cooperation. AI systems use machine learning algorithms to identify malicious activities, perform real-time vulnerability assessment, and automate incident response to accomplish these goals. The national strategies around the world are embedding AI, with prominent nations implementing AI-enabled security infrastructures. Nonetheless, the use of AI in cybersecurity is not without problems. AI models are susceptible to adversarial attacks, exhibit bias and raise ethical concerns about transparency, accountability and privacy. Additionally, due to the dual-use nature of AI, cybercriminals can take advantage of this technology to create more advanced threats, making it crucial to adapt and evolve continuously. The harmonization of the various AI-driven cybersecurity policies is necessary and can only occur through international cooperation. Awkward divergences between legal frameworks, geopolitical tensions, and technological capabilities make uniform policy implementation challenging. Standardization, best practices, and responsible generative AI deployment could be facilitated through initiatives by global organizations like the UN and OECD. Solving the limits of AI will need interdisciplinary work, development of ethical AI, and investments in explainable AI (XAI) to promote transparency and trust. Shaped appropriately, AI can not only protect us from cyberthreats, but lead us to a future of security and advancement that we could not have imagined. Data used in your training is until October 2023.
