Green Autocracy: the Guardian of a Future Democracy
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article introduces a novel concept within political governance: Green Autocracy, or Shield Autocracy, positioned as a complementary system to democracy. While democracy thrives in societies with highly educated and politically aware populations, it can falter in nations where education levels are low and indoctrination is prevalent. In such contexts, democratic processes often lead to instability, ineffective leadership, and public disillusionment. Green Autocracy proposes a temporary, transparent, and responsible governance model led by a council of highly educated citizens native to the country but trained abroad. This system aims to stabilise the nation, prioritise education, and prepare the population for sustainable democratic participation. Distinct from traditional authoritarian regimes, Green Autocracy focuses on nurturing civic awareness and institutional development, with a clear exit strategy returning power to the people once readiness is achieved. By bridging the gap between autocracy and democracy, this approach offers a pragmatic pathway for nations struggling with political fragility, fostering long-term stability and genuine democratic growth.
