Word Order Flexibility in English and Uzbek Sentence

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: : This study examines word order flexibility in English and Uzbek sentences, comparing their syntactic structures to understand how flexibility influences meaning and discourse. English typically adheres to a Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) order with limited variation, while Uzbek, a Turkic language, employs a more flexible Subject-Object-Verb (SOV) structure, allowing rearrangements for emphasis or stylistic effect. Through qualitative syntactic analysis of 50 sentences from literary and conversational texts in both languages, the research identifies patterns of flexibility, constraints, and pragmatic implications. Findings highlight Uzbek’s greater syntactic freedom due to case markers and English’s reliance on fixed order for clarity. The study offers insights into cross-linguistic syntactic dynamics, aiding language teaching, translation, and comparative linguistics.
