Analysis of the Wto and the Process of Integration of Azerbaijan Into the World Economy Summary

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Negotiations to join the World Trade Organization are one of the important steps for Azerbaijan's integration into the global trading system. This process involves harmonizing international trade rules, attracting foreign investment, expanding export potential, and simplifying import-export procedures. In this context, liberalizing the country's economy, aligning national legislation with international standards, and creating conditions for the development of the private sector have been identified as the main goals. Supporting the transition to an open economic model, regulating import duties, reducing trade barriers, and strengthening the international competitive environment are aimed at increasing the competitiveness of business in Azerbaijan. Diversifying the country's export portfolio and developing the non-oil sector, in addition to creating more profitable access to world markets, also increases the degree of integration of local producers in the global economy. However, issues such as accelerating technical, legal, and institutional reforms, ensuring that local enterprises operate in accordance with international standards, and increasing competitiveness at the enterprise level remain key challenges in the WTO accession process. It should be emphasized that achieving successful results in all these areas has created the basis for expanding the country's trade relations, diversifying the economy, and creating a more attractive environment for foreign investors. As a result, Azerbaijan's full membership in the WTO and the completion of the process of integration into the world economy are of strategic importance in terms of increasing the efficiency of the domestic market and strengthening its competitiveness.
