Clinical Pathological Disturbances of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles-Induced Acute Hepatotoxicity in Time Manner in Rats

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The liver is the key to clearing and detoxification chemical toxins in the body, so it is the most susceptive totoxicity. Despite rapid advances in nanotechnology, it has not yet been adequately approved by toxicologicalestimations. Therefore, this study was prepared to assess the acute hepatotoxicity on clinical pathologyparameters caused by zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) in in vivo experiment. Twenty-four male rats wereconsumed in this experiment, separated into three groups (eight in each).First group (CON) was served as acontrol without receiving any dose, whilst other two groups were dosing with ZnONPs (600 mg/kg) once,as(ZnONPs-1) group being euthanized after one day and (ZnONPs-5) group after five days of exposure. Tocomplete clinical pathology analyses, serum was collected for biochemical tests and liver homogenates wereisolated to assess oxidative stress status of all studied rats. A considerable increase in serological liverenzymes levels was recorded in ZnONPs-exposed rats, which was time-dependent compared to unexposedrats. Moreover, ZnONPs induced an increase in malondialdehyde levels in liver homogeneous with asignificant inhibition of antioxidant levels over time compared to unexposed rats. In conclusion, a singleexposure to high concentration of ZnONPs induced hepatotoxicity through disturbance of clinical pathologyindicators as time-dependent.
