The birdlike wings for humans
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This project presents an open, conceptual design for "The Birdlike Wings for Humans," a wearable flapping wing system intended to enable personal human flight. Inspired by avian biomechanics, the system proposes lightweight wing structures, advanced actuators (such as electroactive polymers and electric motors), and integrated control units to coordinate wing motion and stability. The design addresses the technical challenges of scaling birdlike flapping mechanisms to lift the full weight of a human while allowing safe, controllable flight without the need for propellers or jet engines. This early-stage disclosure aims to encourage open collaboration and technological exploration in the fields of wearable flight systems, biomimicry, soft robotics, and human-machine interfaces.
