Open Access, Open & Community Peer Review
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This workshop examined economic, technical, and epistemic drivers of reform in scholarly communication for the humanities. Using live prompts and cases, participants contrasted APC-funded and legacy models with community-governed approaches, focusing on open and collaborative peer review, reviewer credit, and incentives. The session mapped practical pathways that chain existing infrastructures—Hypotheses for DOI-enabled blogging, DaSCH and Zenodo for long-term, citable artefacts—and outlined overlay and preprint workflows suited to DH outputs such as TEI editions, IIIF resources, notebooks, and datasets. Discussion highlighted Swiss-specific adoption gaps for humanities preprints and argued for creditable review work, diamond-OA financing, and a federated repository cluster linking preprints, data, software, and overlay journals via persistent identifiers. The core claim: governance and recognition must lead; technology should serve community norms. Outcomes include a roadmap for interoperable, transparent, and sustainable workflows that return editorial agency to scholars while improving trust and pace of review.
