Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In an increasingly globalized world, the teaching of English as a secondlanguage (ESL) is more than a linguistic endeavor—it is a cultural one. English learnersoften come from diverse cultural backgrounds, each with unique communication norms, learning styles, and worldviews. Therefore, effective ESL teaching requires more thangrammar and vocabulary instruction; it involves nurturing cultural competence—both forthe teacher and the student. Cultural competence is the ability to understand, respect, andappropriately respond to different cultural perspectives.
