Abstract: Crowdfunding represents an alternative funding mechanism for entrepreneurs to obtain funds from the public and raise awareness of a new project. The reward-based model allows founders to supply rewards which are digital or physical rather than financial. This paper analyses success factors and barriers for reward-based crowdfunding campaigns focusing on the similarities and differences between campaigns in the UK and China. Eight successful project founders were interviewed – four from each country.
