Abstract: Adults with Down syndrome are at an \nincreased risk of developing early onset \nAlzheimer’s diseasе. Dementia is typically \npreceded by prodromal pre-clinical phase. \nPathohistological characteristics of Alzheimer’s diseasе are universally present \nby the fifth decade in Down syndrome \npatients. Trajectories of cognitive decline \nassociated with dementia in Down syndrome \npopulation are not fully described. Having \nin mind pre-existing cognitive difficulties, early dementia signs may be overlooked or misdiagnosed, missing the opportunity \nfor the early use of pharmacological and \npsychosocial interventions. Down syndrome \npopulation could be a target for investigation \nof preventive and therapeutic measures in \nmanagement of Alzheimer’s diseasе. World \nHeаlth Organisation called for inclusion of \nintellectual disability in national dementia \nplans.
