The role of inflammation in wasp sting-induced acute kidney injury
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Wasp stings can lead to acute kidney injury (AKI), which is an important risk factor for wasp sting-induced death. It can be caused by the direct nephrotoxic effects of wasp venom or secondary to rhabdomyolysis/hemolysis. Recent studies have found that inflammatory response plays a central role in the pathogenesis of wasp sting-induced AKI. After wasp stings, the Stimulator of Interferon Genes (STING) signaling pathway is activated in the kidney, thereafter leading to the expressions of downstream inflammatory mediators and promoting the progression of AKI. This article summarized the new progress of inflammation in the diagnosis and treatment of wasp sting-induced AKI in recent years by combining the new research results of the research group and other scholars, thus providing a new direction for the treatment of wasp sting-induced AKI.
