Some correlates of death anxiety

Year: 1991
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Thirty-three elderly subjects between the ages of 55 and 86 currently obtaining counseling from a community mental health center participated in the study. Demographic data on age, marital status, and race were collected. All subjects completed the Death Anxiety Scale, Life Satisfaction Index A, and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Death Anxiety Scale scores were not significantly correlated with subject's ages. Pearson product-moment correlations also revealed that Death Anxiety Scale scores were only modestly and nonsignificant related to Life Satisfaction Index A Scores. In addition, when the influence of Trait Anxiety was partially out, the correlation between Death Anxiety and Life Satisfaction was reduced even further. As hypothesized, Death Anxiety scores were significantly correlated with state and Trait Anxiety Inventory scores. Applied and research implications of the findings of this research were discussed.
