Abstract: The productivity benefits from recent investments in increased automation came along with a greater complexity in manufacturing systems. This necessitates the introduction of digital support tools, especially digital twins, for tasks such as production planning and control. Process mining has proven to be a valuable tool for several phases of digital twinning, demonstrating its effectiveness in model generation, trace profiling, and performance evaluation. There are still significant challenges in both methodological and application areas, offering valuable opportunities for academia and industry. This presentation highlights several topics at the intersection of process mining and digital twins in manufacturing systems, with an overview of recent projects and a reflection on research opportunities.
