Évaluation du bien-être animal en zoo : état des lieux et mise en pratique dans le contexte de l’ère du numérique
Year: 2024
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Animal welfare is a topic of interest within society, politics and the scientific community. WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums) has launched the 2023 Welfare Goal, requiring zoos to monitor the welfare of their animals. This monitoring is based on a number of scientific advances and uses the framework of the Five Domains Model. Zoos that are members of the AFdPZ (Association Française des Parcs Zoologiques) are beginning to develop BEA monitoring (77% of the 75 zoos surveyed claim to have an established or in progress process), especially thanks to the AFdPZ's well-being committee, which has provided them with a multi-species grid. Currently in paper format, this grid will soon be integrated into the Vita'nimal Welfare digital tool, which simplifies observations and analyzes data. Adaptable and intuitive, it is suitable for different zoos and will evolve with scientific advances on welfare monitoring.
