A Nature-based Solutions Framework for Sustainable Urban Forests Management

Year: 2024
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Nature-based solutions (NbS) considers natural processes as guiding principles for problem solving to ensure the smooth cycling of material and energy flows.Managing urban environments through nature-based solutions is gaining attention as v providing habitat for biodiversity, and reducing temperatures. While it is not feasible to create new green spaces on a large scale in densely developed urban areas, given the spatial characteristics of high-density cities, it is challenging to manage existing urban forests and green spaces to provide various ecosystem services more effectively.Emphasizing and applying nature-based solutions can be carried out in conjunction with, rather than in place of, existing technology-driven thinking to restore and manage the functions of natural environments in the long term.Sustainable urban forest management can contribute to the realization of sustainable, healthy and resilient cities. To summarize the results of this study, it is important that through the development of the method to make the quantitative data in the study "Urban forest Land Cover Map", a framework approaching urban problem solving using existing urban forests, taking into account climate change, biodiversity and the well-being of urban residents has been proposed.
