Popo Carnaval de Bonoua : de la Théâtralité au Développement
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The Popo Carnival is one of the events sealing the union of the population and presents cultural ingenuity from the Bonoua region. It finds its social and historical origins in the tradition of the Abouré and constitutes a cultural activity encompassing music, dance, costumes, pageantry and spectacle. The forty-second edition of Popo Carnaval saw innovations on the cultural, recreational and commercial levels. An analysis of this annual event reveals theatrical aspects in the representation of customary and historical facts. The institution of the trade fair has had an economic impact on the city of Bonoua through the investments made, trade and tourism. Each year, the running of the Popo Carnaval under varying themes implies a common interest: the expression of cultural pluralism between its participants.
