Terapia behawioralna w leczeniu dyslipidemii

Year: 2017
Type: article
Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of premature death both in Poland and globally around the world. The main risk factors associated with their incidence are lipid disorders, with hipercholesterolemia being the major one (it is estimated to occur in 2/3 population of Poland aged > 18). As dyslipidemias belong to a group of modifiable risk factors, their prevention — both primary and secondary should be a priority among actions undertaken by the doctors and their patients. Moreover, unlike pharmacotherapy, interventions of that type can act on a few risk factors at once. 2016 European Society of Cardiology/European Atherosclerosis Society guidelines for the management of dyslipidemias advise lifestyle modifications at each stage of treatment (regardless of the decision about pharmacological therapy). Also, their role in the prevention of incidence of the forementioned disorders should not be undervalued. Lifestyle modification of the greatest proven effectiveness is the change of patient’s eating habits. The article sums up dietary guidelines covered in the forementioned 2016 ESC/EAS document and extends them to present and suggest possibilities of implementation. From the perspective of a physician it is a subject of great importance as their task is to make guidelines given to patients as comprehensive and detailed as possible, what facilitates the process of putting them in practice. The most significant changes mentioned in the article are i.a. limited use of trans and saturated fatty acids as well as cholesterol, increased consumption of fiber and undertaking actions leading to reduction of excessive body mass.
