Beyond the five-day paradigm: Assessing the four-day workweek revolution

Year: 2023
Type: dissertation
Abstract: There is still a lot to discover about the current campaigns to replace the five-day workweek with a four-day timetable, even if employers, political parties, governments, and the media have all expressed interest in them. This study attempts to understand the possibility of implementing the four-day workweek and the pros and cons of it. Based on a sample of 20 workers, more than half of whom held positions connected to managing a team, this study uses qualitative analyses aligned with the KH Coder to figure out if the four-day workweek is a viable option. The results reflected what was highlighted in the literature review, where the majority believes in a successful implementation. It must be noted that according to the results, the interviewees were irreducible to a salary reduction. Nonetheless, this research suggests that some benefits, like productivity, should not be prioritized over other significant issues, such as mental health.
