Abstract: Summary. The principal provisions of the 2016 revisionto the World Health Organization classification of myeloid neoplasms and acute leukemia, namely revisions tothe categories of myeloid neoplasms and acute leukemiahave been considered. The major changes in the classification have been presented as compared with WHOclassification of tumors of hematopoietic and lymphoidtissues published in 2008. The principal forms of myeloproliferative neoplasms and acute leukemia according tothe revised classification have been listed and the major criteria for their diagnosis have been considered.The disease entities are defined based on histogeneticprinciples for ascertaining the lineage of the transformedcells and their differentiation level taking into accountthe recent findings on the cytogenetic and molecular biological abnormalities in the blast cells. The use of therevised classification allows one for diagnosing precisely myeloid neoplasms and acute leukemia contributingto the improvement of their therapies.
