Bridging Islamic Ethics and Circular Economy: Towards a Halal Circular Economy Framework

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: The worldwide halal market which includes food products and cosmetics and pharmaceuticals and logistics services will reach USD3 trillion by 2026 while creating substantial trade opportunities and major environmental problems. This research investigates how the basic principles of circular economy has any impact and affect on halal business operations through Islamic ethical and theological frameworks. By conducting insightful analysis and evaluating the theological underpinnings from Islamic business ethics, this research proposes a Halal Circular Economy Framework (HCEF) through the combination of Islamic Shariah principles with contemporary environmental standards. The research investigates Muslim business owners and entrepreneurs who operate in the UK as a non-Muslim majority nation while they follow Islamic ethics and halal certification requirements and British sustainability policies. The research combines quantitative and qualitative methods to study CE implementation in halal food production and certification and retail sectors and their impact on business strategies and public policies. The research creates links between Islamic moral values and modern environmental management systems to generate theoretical and practical outcomes which support Islamic finance and sustainability studies and circular economy policy development.
