Abstract: During the evolution of species, many births of gene, bringing innovations, were observed, allowing life to adapt and survive in many environments. However, it is also remarkable that numerous genes have been lost. Traces of these genes lost in the genome of living beings can be found through pseudogenes. The objective of this bibliographical work is to clarify this phenomenon of pseudogenisation and to explore, through it, the information that can be obtained concerning the evolution of individuals. It is clear that pseudogenisation is widespread throughout the living, and that this evolutionary process can highlight various adaptations provided by species, although it is never easy to know whether it is cause or consequence. These pseudogenes, long considered as « junk » DNA, could also retain a genomic function and be subject to selection. The loss of gene would therefore be a driving phenomenon of evolution.
