Intimate Partner Violence's Impact on Subsequent Relationships

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Intimate partner violence (IPV) negatively impacts relationships and the partners who engage in them. There has been research done into many facets of IPV relationships, such as risk factors and conflict. However, this thesis aims to answer the question, “How does IPV victimization affect subsequent partner selection, conflict management, experience of safety, and overall perception of the relationship?” In order to answer this question, I surveyed and interviewed previous victims of domestic violence and analyzed the content of their responses to identify common themes.
