Les cités crétoises face à la violence : stratégies plurielles

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Cretan piracy, active in the Hellenistic period and perhaps even earlier, is mentioned only once in the island’s inscriptions, because the cities preferred to keep quiet about this illicit trade, which benefited them economically. The social structures of Crete are essentially responsible for this violence.
