WEDC Guide No. 36: Timber for infrastructure

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: One of the most widely used building materials is wood. Virtually all societies use it in some way as an integral part of the buildings they construct. However, as a natural product, wood has widely varying properties. Most societies have local craftsmen capable of building simple wooden structures. As an infrastructure specialist, it is more important that you can assess the quality of local timber and its structural properties. © WEDC, Loughborough University, 2020 Author: Bob Reed lllustrated by Rod Shaw Edited and produced by Rod Shaw, Kay Davey and Glenda McMahon
