Abstract: Translation defined as the process of cultural mediation is affected by the extent of the transcultural differences between source and target languages. In the last decades, the studies that emerged in the context of narrative theory have shown that stories are not restricted to the verbal modality but can be conveyed non-linguistically through different multimodal systems.A central focus in translation practice is a concern to explore ambiguity and contestation that exists between source and target languages, both as an explicit feature of the multimodal data to be examined and as inherent to the macro discourses where the data are drawn from.
