La falta de conciencia de enfermedad como elemento de invalidación

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Lack of insight is a concept widely used in mental health and other services, and especially in the legal setting. The lack of insight is attributed to patients who express irrational ideas, incomprehensible to professionals, strange perceptions, or when they do not accept diagnoses and treatments. The lack of insight provides justification for imposing unwanted treatments or restrictions. The nature of this notion and its impact on clinical management when a person is defined as lacking of insight is addressed. It is proposed that it is an unscientific notion that harms people and is in opposition to collaborative care, which involves the understanding of patients' distress and their needs.
