Abstract: My project addresses the issue of non-recyclable Van Doren reed cases at Gettysburg College and proposes a community-based solution to mitigate waste. It outlines the environmental impact of improperly handled reed cases, presents research on reed usage and material recyclability, and proposes two initiatives: an education campaign and a dedicated collection receptacle for proper disposal. The proposal emphasizes collaboration with faculty, localized recycling efforts, and the potential for broader replication in other communities.
