Abstract: ABSTRACT The present study of qualitative research, of descriptive type was realized during the months April to September of the 2016 in the service of Neonatología of the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo; With the aim of describing and analyzing the care that the nurses perform in the process of mother - premature newborn hospitalization in the neonatal unit. The sample was obtained by theoretical saturation with ten participants, five nurses and five mothers of hospitalized newborns. For data collection, the semi-structured interview guide was used as an instrument and the participant observation was a secondary technique. It was analyzed by the technique of content analysis where units of analysis were obtained for further disaggregation into subcategories and categories based on criteria of ethics and rigor. The analysis of the speeches reported the category: Care dynamics in the process of bonding that included: Knowing the mother and premature newborn, Accompanying in the process of bonding, Strengthening faith and Fighting against the limitations of the environment. The final considerations point out that nurses have their own way of promoting the newborn mother bond, based on their knowledge that guides the practice of care, culturally congruent, aiming to achieve the mother's approach and / or participation in the unit Neonatal.
