Abstract: The integration of Generative AI (GenAI) tools into computing education represents a significant shift in the education sector, influencing both students’ learning processes and academic practices. This research investigates the use of GenAI tools through semi-structured interviews with 25 computer science students at Uppsala University. It explores participants’ experiences, perceptions, and expectations of GenAI tools in terms of educational purposes, trustworthinessof outputs, and ethical implications in academic work. The findings confirm that GenAI tools playa crucial role in fostering innovative educational practices and promoting independent learning. However, they also introduce ethical challenges, particularly in relation to academic misconduct. The research offers strategies to address these challenges and provides four keyrecommendations for developing effective approaches to ensure the responsible use of GenAIin computing education.
